Private Peter Frederick Crampton Ross
Peter Frederick Crampton Ross was born on 22 June 1892 in Dublin Street, Carlow, the second of five children of boot dealer and outfitter William James Ross and his wife Mary Jeannette (née Baylor).
Ross enlisted in the North Irish Horse between July 1908, when the regiment was formed, and 1911 (regimental number unknown). He served in the regiment for three year, before emigrating to Canada around 1913.
By 1917 Ross was living at 122 Felstead Avenue, Toronto, and working as a locomotive fireman. On 22 May that year he enlisted as a gunner in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (No.349731).
Ross arrived at Liverpool, England, on 7 December 1917. Four months later he embarked for France, and on 6 September 1918 he was posted to the 14th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery.
Following the Armistice he returned to England and then, on 11 June, embarked at Liverpool for Canada. He was discharged on 23 June.
On 15 September 1920 Ross married Margaret Hogg in York, Ontario. He died in 1964 and was buried in the Pine Hills Cemetery, Toronto.
